Lately, I have been seeing a new lady friend who has been a blessing both in terms of support and understanding. She too has been through bankruptcy and has had her challenges over the past few years. Since my problems have intensified, I have drunk alcohol less and less to the point I rarely drink. For some, booze provides a better place when times are tough, I am quite the opposite. The worse I feel, the less I drink, and I use to drink a lot. When life is good red wine, rum and gin are the party drinks of choice., when bad, water.
However, this weekend we had a spa evening which was preceded by a Crabbies Ginger Beer and Plantation Rum on ice with a lime squeeze. Wow what a drink and does it pack a punch. After one strong one we were off, and I felt rather inebriated to say the least though in a good way. Later that evening back at her flat we even smoked da herb. I was rather apprehensive and nervous at first as it had been a very long time since I had smoked anything. The last was with Uni mates after a heavy drinking reunion. Within minutes I was as sick as a dog and had a full on ‘whitey’, hence why being offered all these years later just concerned me a little. For those of you innocents that don’t know what a whitey is, it’s usually from smoking the herb when drunk. The body kind of rejects it and goes into a toxic shock resulting in physically going white, cold, and sweating, a very cold sweat followed by vomiting and feeling sick for hours. The only way I have got rid of one is drinking lots of water, going to sleep and coming out the other side.

Anyway, I was persuaded to take a few drags and it turned out a rather positive experience, in fact hilarious, we joked and laughed for hours in a way the booze could never achieve. I realised I was laughing so much I had got aching laughter muscles in my face. It has been so very long since I laughed like that. A splendid evening indeed – as the saying goes ‘a friend with weed is a friend indeed’ – Friday, that was so true.
